Sports & Architecture takes visitors on a journey through the history of sports architecture, exploring how spaces built for sport have evolved across centuries and how architecture has shaped the experience of athletes and spectators.

From the stadiums of ancient Greece and the monumental arenas of Rome to the emergence of modern sporting venues, Sports & Architecture traces the evolving relationship between sport and the built environment. Through historical objects, architectural drawings and models, photographs, publications and audiovisual material, the exhibition explores how sporting spaces have responded to changing societies, traditions, and technologies.

The journey concludes in Qatar, tracing the evolution of Khalifa International Stadium since its opening in 1976 and exploring the architecture of stadiums created for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, including Al Janoub Stadium and Al Bayt Stadium. Together, these stories reveal how stadium architecture has evolved from ancient spaces of competition and gathering into the complex sporting landmarks of today.
